The Learning Contract - Spring 2023

Our success this semester will be guided by this document. All students will be sent a survey/information sheet that includes formal acceptance and acknowledgement of this Learning Contract.

+At the beginning of the semester, each student will complete an online survey and student information document, which will include in it, acknowledgement of this learning contract.

College is a voluntary learning community, and in this class, the students share the responsibility for success with their instructor. This is a place for college-level communication, critical thinking, meaningful reading and writing, and interacting in the discussion forums for our online community. This “learning contract” represents our mutual commitments to participate in this cooperative classroom as defined by the teacher’s policy statements and the policies of Tennessee Tech.

You can expect that as your instructor I will do my best to be polite, prepared, passionate, and professional about every aspect of this course. I will always respect your rights, concerns, and opinions, and I expect the same respect from you towards me and the rest of the learning community. I will read all of your work carefully and evaluate your performance fairly.

Given the unpredictable circumstances of the last few years, I have tried to make sure my classes have an aspect of flexibility, compassion, and understanding, especially concerning the typical measures of student classroom achievement. We will still have high standards for each other, but these will be interpreted with flexibility and care.

By completing the online survey and contract, you agree to the following statements, based on expectations outlined by the syllabus/policy statement.

I have read and understand the syllabus – and if there is something that I do not understand, I have asked the instructor for an explanation or clarification.

I agree to attend class, abide by classroom courtesy, and work regularly online with reliable internet access, check email and iLearn to keep up with work, and submit my assignments on time.

I agree to attempt all assignments, seeking to complete them on time and to the best of my ability.

I understand that I will receive point grades for all my work and that my final grade will be based on a total number of points, with the points available for each assignment and to achieve each grade level articulated on the syllabus. All major assignments will have detailed instructions that include the criteria for evaluation, which will be provided via email and on iLearn.

I understand that I may consult with the instructor at any time, if I have any questions about the class or my grade.

I agree to openly discuss any problems that may arise for me in the course with my instructor and attempt to negotiate a positive solution to these problems.

I agree to take full responsibility for my success (or failure) in this endeavor.
