Attendance-Late Policy - 2021 update

IMPORTANT NOTICE - In light of lessons since the global pandemic began in 2020, we realized that traditional attendance policies cannot be enforced. Because of these insights, Mr. Smith with no longer penalize absences with point deductions.

That said, a livestreamed, synchronous (real time) online experience is being offered, to increase opportunities for interaction and accountability, both for the students and for the instructor. That is, attendance and participation in livestream work will greatly increase your chances for success in your class. In a required writing class, the students' writing is the main topic of the course; thus, some virtual group work is required and essential to success. Active participation in livestream classes will greatly increase your chances for success.

Finally, for students who miss any classes at all, we will do our best to provide asynchronous (work at your own pace) options. Students who do not engage in the group work for a writing class, however, may be required to do alternate work to replace the group work, which will be much harder to accomplish than the group work.

Students are strongly encouraged to submit all work on time. Late work extensions will have a universal grace period and a final non-negotiable deadline near the close of the semester. The professor will not provide the standard robust feedback in a writing class for late work.
